The Paisley design originated from the motifs representing the plant for id the date palm in ancient Babylon over 2000 years ago. This “Tree of Life” provided the fundamental necessities of food and shelter, it also represented the beginnings of growth and a symbol of fertility.
The leaf design has been used by many civilisations for decoration. From the late 1700s, shawls, which were imitations of the popular Indian version, were made in Paisley, Scotland. They become very sought after and fashionable. As a result of their enormous success the design became known as the Paisley Pattern.
My interpretation of the Paisley Leaf into jewellery reflects the intricate original patterns in a contemporary way. These Paisley leaves are enamelled with Champagne Pink enamel laced with Baroque pearls.|
